My export is stuck, slow, or won't complete

Written by Karen

Exporting your work from Jitter runs inside your browser, which means your browser version, available memory, operating system and network conditions can all affect whether or how fast an export completes.

✏️ Note: Transparent video formats (like WebM with alpha) and ProRes exports are processed on Jitter's servers so they will likely take longer to export.

If your export is stuck or not finishing, work through these steps:

  1. Use Chrome: Jitter's exporter works best in the latest version of Google Chrome on desktop. If you're on another browser, switch to Chrome first.

  2. Retry the export: Close the export page and re-initiate the export from the editor. Temporary browser or network hiccups often resolve on the next attempt.

  3. Keep the tab active: While exporting, keep the Jitter tab in the foreground. Browsers deprioritize background tabs, so switching tabs can interrupt the export process.

  4. Try an alternative export method: For MP4 exports, a Try an alternative option may appear on the export page. This may route the job through our servers instead of your browser.

  5. Switch to a simpler format: If you're exporting ProRes or a transparent format but don't have a specific need for transparency or post-production quality, MP4 will be faster and more reliable.

  6. Simplify your project: Very long timelines, high resolutions, and/or heavy use of blurs and masks can push exports to the limit. Try reducing resolution or simplifying the file and exporting again.
