What is Brainstorm?

Brainstorm is an AI-powered feature that helps you explore and generate motion ideas instantly from any static design.

Start with a static design, choose your desired mood (playful, bold, soft, elegant, cinematic), and let our AI assistant Oli put together an intro animation sequence for you.

It's perfect for trying out ideas on the fly and giving you a canvas that is already in motion to work from.

How to access Brainstorm:

  1. Click on the sparkle ✨ icon at the top-right corner of the artboard to open the AI menu

  2. Pick a mood to generate

  3. Let the magic happen

Your scene will be duplicated alongside the original, with freshly-baked animations ready to go.

Tip: Click outside of the artboard to exit AI mode and continue working if you prefer not to wait — you’ll see a notification when your Brainstorm scene is ready.

What is Brainstorm good for?

New users

New to Jitter or animation? All you need is your static design (created in Jitter, from a template, or imported from Figma), and Brainstorm will create an introduction sequence from your design.

Your brainstorm output is fully customizable and editable. You can inspect how various effects are chosen and layered, learn from the sequencing choices, then customize every detail to make it your own.

Exploring animation moods

Brainstorm offers three distinct moods to match your creative vision. When you're stuck, it's a quick way to experiment with different directions and find what works best.

  • Playful: Lively, energetic style with bouncy motion. Perfect for social content, product moments, and adding a friendly personality.

  • Bold: Confident, high-impact style built on crisp, snappy cuts. Great for making messages stand out.

  • Soft: Calm, understated style with gentle pacing. Ideal for minimal brands, premium tech, and designs that need a smooth, unobtrusive feel.

  • Elegant: Refined, editorial style with sophisticated reveals. Designed for typography-driven layouts, fashion, beauty, and premium brand storytelling.

  • Cinematic: Dramatic, atmospheric style with slower, expressive motion. Best for dramatic reveals and content that needs a premium, high-production feel

Building animation foundations

Brainstorm excels at creating the foundations of your animation. Basic timings, sequencing, and transitions are generated for you based on your mood so you don’t start from a blank timeline.

You get a fully animated scene that you can refine, adjust, and build upon. It might not look great or perfect at first but hey — that part is up to you! ✨

Getting the most out of Brainstorm

If you’ve used AI-features before, you’ll know that results can vary. We don’t claim to have a perfect solution to this (yet) but we’re continuously tweaking things and welcome your feedback.

In the meantime, here are some tips and tricks for using Brainstorm and getting ideas moving quickly and reliably.

Keep it simple

The feature works best for quickly building the foundations of your layout and animation sequence at the beginning of a project. Keep your initial number of layers to a reasonable amount and avoid nesting groups or hierarchies for the best results.

Name your layers

Brainstorm works best when your layers and groups are intuitively titled (e.g. logo, main header, menu) and not cryptic. Our AI model analyzes your layer titles to determine the most appropriate effects and sequencing order to use. There’s no need to be overly-technical — just keep it readable.

Use Jitter-native layers

Brainstorm will try to handle whatever is thrown at it, but our model is most comfortable with the features and properties designed and built by Jitter. For example, shapes and text that are made in Jitter’s editor are more likely to output the result you would expect.

Frequently asked Questions

Can I change the duration of Brainstorm animations?

Brainstorm currently generates 1-3 second animations by default. We aim to offer more options and customizability in the future for this.

Can I create custom prompts or moods?

Not yet, but it’s something we will explore in future iterations of the feature.

Will I always get the same result?

Each brainstorm varies the result you get, although you may notice some fundamental similarities based on the mood you select.

Does Brainstorm work on existing animations?

Brainstorm works with your static design only — any existing animations in your scene will be disregarded.

Are there limits to usage on this beta?

As this is a beta feature, we’re actively monitoring how Brainstorm is used to optimize our usage packages. For now, we offer 3 usage tiers based on your pricing plan:

  • Free: Limited AI usage

  • Pro: Increased AI usage

  • Team: Maximum AI usage

We encourage you to try Brainstorm as much as possible (in a sensible manner) and would love to hear your feedback.

Can I perform multiple brainstorms in parallel?

Only one brainstorm can be running at a time, but we’re working to make parallel brainstorms possible in the future.

Why are some layers not animated?

Our model may skip layers if your scene is complex or contains a high number of layers. We’re working to optimize this in future updates.

The results are too simple

Brainstorm is designed to give you a solid jumping-off point for your animation, rather than a completed project. It prioritizes simplicity to give you a reliable result that you can easily expand on, and we’re continuing to refine the model to suit more use cases.

Can Brainstorm generate outro animations?

Our model is focused om introduction sequences right now, but we're working on more options for future iterations.

Does the AI look at my asset data? (images, videos, shape designs)? Are you using my work to train your model?

No, Brainstorm does not analyze your actual asset data (images, videos, or shape designs). We take a screenshot of your artboard and your layer list configuration, which is essentially the structure, names, and properties of your layers. We do not use your work or designs to train our AI model.
