Apply a 3D orbit effect

Spin your layers through space

Written by Karen

A 3D orbit effect rotates a layer around its X, Y, or Z axis in 3D space. Perspective and camera distance controls add extra depth to the motion. Use it to flip a card, spin a logo, or give a flat shape a subtle sense of depth.

To apply a 3D orbit effect:

  1. Select the layer you'd like to animate

  2. In the property panel, switch to the Animate tab

  3. Click Add animation > Custom > 3D Orbit

  4. Set the Initial value by adjusting Rotate X, Rotate Y, and Rotate Z to define the layer's starting orientation, along with Pivot Z, Perspective, and Camera Distance to set the starting depth and feel

  5. Below that, set your target values under To for the same controls — this is where the orientation and depth will end up after the animation plays

  6. Toggle Show Front and Show Back to control whether the front face, back face, or both remain visible as the layer turns

  7. Adjust Duration and Easing to control how the rotation feels

💡 Tip: For a smooth and continuous orbit, animate Rotate Y from 0 to 360 with a Smooth easing so the layer ends up back where it started.
