Copy animations between layers

Reuse your favorite animations and speed up your workflow

Jitter's animations are reusable instructions that can be easily duplicated onto different layers. This makes it super simple to take an animation or effect from any layer and paste it onto another.

👯 Copy and paste

  1. Click the animation segment on the timeline to select it. Multi-select by holding ⇧ (consecutive) or ⌘ / Ctrl (non-consecutive).

  2. Copy the animation(s) with ⌘ C / Ctrl C.

  3. Move the time cursor to your target position.

  4. Select the target layer, and paste with ⌘ V / Ctrl V.

When pasting multiple animations with staggered starts, the earliest one will land on the time cursor.

✏️ Note: Only compatible animation types will be applied to the target layer. For example, you can't apply text-specific effects onto shapes.

Paste several layers at once

When you multi-select several layers, Jitter will add a copy of the same animation(s) to each selected layer. This is useful when you want to apply an effect to a bunch of objects without having to paste layer by layer.

Copy the easing curve

You can reuse any easing values in a similar way:

  1. Use Copy easing from the menu next to Animation in the right sidebar on the source operation, or the ⌘ ⇧ C / Ctrl C shortcut

  2. Select the target layer, then ⌘ V / Ctrl V to apply that easing.

♻️ Reusing animations between files and templates

Copying and pasting animations (or layers) works seamlessly between different scenes, files and templates.

If you see an effect in a template that you really like or want to emulate, you can copy it directly into your own file.
