Using the pen and morph tools

Draw custom shapes and animate them

Written by Karen

The pen and morph tools give you creative control over shape and motion. Draw anything, then animate it to transform it into something else entirely!

Drawing with the pen tool

Select the pen tool from the top toolbar, then click on the canvas to place your first point. Click again to create another point and connect them with a straight line. Keep clicking to build out your shape.

To adjust your shape:

  • Drag a point to reposition it

  • Hold ⌘ / Ctrl while dragging to pull a straight line into a curve

  • Close your shape by clicking back on the first point

Once your shape is complete, it behaves like any other layer in Jitter. You can style it, group it, and animate it.

Animating with morph

Morph allows you to animate your shape smoothly, transitioning it into a different form. Here's how:

  1. Select your shape and open the Animate tab in the right property panel

  2. Click New animation β†’ Custom β†’ Morph

  3. Edit the shape directly on the canvas. This becomes the To value of the animation (the end state it morphs into).

Jitter handles all the in-between frames automatically, giving you a fluid, organic transition between the two shapes.
